a woman’s right to shoes – part I...

During the final season of Sex & The City, there was an episode called “A Woman’s Right to Shoes”. In this episode, Carrie Bradshaw had to remove her new Manolo Blahniks shoes at her friend’s baby shower, which went missing at the end of the night. I fell in love with the shoes since I saw it but bloody hell, I can’t afford to own a pair of Manolos – well, maybe I can but if I pay that much for a pair of shoes, I might as well be using that money to go on a holiday. Opportunity cost, people, opportunity cost!

So, I would be watching that episode of the show every now and then and still wonder if there could be a similar design, which would not burn a hole in my pocket. I think God answered by prayers through a salesperson named Michelle at Aldo. I was browsing through the accessories, trying on some shades. When I asked if I could be given a new piece of the shades which I wanted to buy, she said that while she went to get it, she suggested that I go through the shoes on display as they had a 15% discount storewide if you pay with one of the credit cards. I think it was fate – there it was! The exact design by Manolos in Aldo but in a different colour and probably more afforable. Normally, I am unable to get a shoe with my size at Aldo (yes, I have giant feet) but Michelle told me that the shoes are new arrivals and she has the size for me. Since I had to rush for a lunch appointment, she has agreed to keep aside the shoes in black and brown for me and I can come and try it later. She was just so nice!

After work, escorted by Zoe, I went back to Aldo. I was not sure if I want to get the black or the brown. If it were the same color like the ones from Sex & The City, that would have been ideal. Zoe and I were weighing between the black and the brown – you could wear the brown with jeans…. If you have a lot of black items, the black one would be good…. The brown is dark enough to pass of as black, etc, etc. Women! Just to buy a pair of shoes, we had to weigh all the options.

In the end, I decided to go with the brown. I went home a happy woman, probably how would have Carrie felt when she received a new pair of Manolos at the end of that episode of Sex & The City. It may not be a Manolos but hey, beggars can’t be choosers.
